Why the Accord still matters in South OC
Drive any stretch of the 5, 405, 241 or Antonio Parkway during rush hour and you will see why the Accord remains one of the most-shopped sedans at RSM Honda. South Orange County drivers rack up long, high-speed freeway miles, and the Accord is built for exactly that life - quiet at 75 mph, efficient enough in hybrid form to shrug off OC gas prices, and roomy enough that an adult fits comfortably in the back seat, something the Civic cannot promise. For families in Rancho Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch and Coto de Caza who still prefer a sedan over a crossover, the Accord is the obvious pick.
Engines & Hybrid Powertrain
The 2025 Accord comes in two flavors. The gas LX, SE and EX-L use a 1.5L turbocharged four (192 hp) paired with a CVT - smooth, quiet and rated around 32 MPG combined. The Sport, EX-L, Sport-L and Touring Hybrid trims use Honda's two-motor hybrid system (204 hp combined) that delivers instant electric torque off the line, no plug required, and an EPA rating of roughly 48 MPG combined.
On a typical South OC commute, the hybrid usually beats its sticker rating because it harvests so much energy braking down the Ortega, El Toro Road or the 73 toll road off-ramps. Real owners we talk to at RSM Honda regularly report 47-52 MPG in mixed driving.

Hybrid vs Gas: which one for OC?
Roughly two-thirds of new Accords sold in South OC are now hybrids, and for good reason. At ~48 MPG combined vs ~32 MPG for the gas 1.5L turbo, a 15,000-mile year saves about $800-$1,000 at current California pump prices. The hybrid also feels noticeably quicker off the line in stop-and-go traffic. If your commute is short and mostly surface streets, the gas EX-L is still a great buy. Reliability & Long-Term Ownership
The Accord has been a Consumer Reports recommended vehicle for the better part of two decades and routinely ranks at or near the top of J.D. Power dependability studies for midsize sedans. The two-motor hybrid system has been on the road since 2014 - it is one of the most proven hybrid powertrains in the industry, and our service techs at RSM Honda see very few major issues on Accord Hybrids well past 150,000 miles.
Every new Accord comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Hybrid components are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles (10 years/150,000 miles in California).
Accord vs Civic for OC Buyers
The Accord is a meaningfully larger and quieter car. If you regularly carry adult rear passengers, take road trips to Big Bear or San Diego, or want a true mid-size cabin, the Accord is worth the step up. If you are a solo commuter or your second car needs to fit a tighter garage, the Civic is the smarter pick.
Service & Maintenance Costs
Accord maintenance follows Honda's 7,500-mile oil-change interval under normal conditions, or 3,750 miles for severe service. Most South OC commuters on the 5, 405 and 241 fall into the normal category if their drives are at least 20 minutes of steady freeway speeds. Synthetic oil changes at RSM Honda run $80-$125; the 15,000- and 30,000-mile services (tire rotation, cabin and engine air filters, brake inspection and fluid checks) typically land between $260-$420.
Accord Hybrids use the same engine-oil schedule but add a high-voltage system inspection and battery-cooling filter service at major intervals. Brake pads on hybrids routinely last 60,000-80,000 miles thanks to regenerative braking, versus 45,000-65,000 on the gas model. The hybrid's e-CVT also eliminates traditional transmission-fluid service, which saves $200-$300 at the 60,000-mile mark.
RSM Honda's service department handles routine maintenance and genuine Honda parts for Accord and Accord Hybrid owners in Rancho Santa Margarita, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest and Ladera Ranch.
